A Personal Law platform
The law is everywhere. Legal help is not.
Legal services made people clients. Briefcase gives people legal autonomy. A private, intelligent legal foundation for every person, family, founder, and business, so what governs you is understandable, answerable, coordinated, and ready for action.
Pilots start as early as October 1, 2026.
The problem
The legal market was built for matters a lawyer can profitably take.
72%
or more of California households in every income group had at least one civil legal problem in the past year.
State Bar of California, 2024California Justice Gap StudyThe bands run from 72 to 75 percent; legal problems are income-independent, an average of six problems per household.
Everything else is too important to ignore, too small for full-service counsel, and too complex for a chatbot. Most people meet the law through an inherited assumption: that an individual must either hand a legal matter over to a professional or navigate it alone.
That assumption creates a false binary:
- 01
Hire a professional to own the understanding and the process.
- or
- 02
Navigate alone, with fragmented information, generic forms, and little support.
Personal Law creates a third path.
Own your legal context and understanding. Act at the level that fits you. Bring in qualified professionals where they add judgment or protection.
Legal Dependency forces people to start from zero every time, pay again for context they already had, recognize risks late, and make consequential decisions without the benefit of what they already learned.
How it sounds in everyday life
The category
From hiring legal capability to having legal capability.
Personal Law is the technology, knowledge, tools, professional access, records, and intelligence an individual uses to understand and manage the law as it affects their life.
Legal services have historically been built around lawyers. Personal Law is built around the individual.
A living record of your legal life.
The intelligence to understand it.
Human judgment when you decide it matters.
Personal Law gives individuals an ongoing ability to understand, organize, and manage legal matters directly.
What Briefcase gives you
The wealthy and large institutions have always had legal infrastructure. Briefcase puts it in everyone’s hands.
Legal capability should not begin with a crisis. A legal foundation is a private, intelligent system that makes the documents, obligations, decisions, and rights governing your life understandable, answerable, coordinated, and ready for action.
Understand the situation.
You remain in control.
Always have a path forward.
A federal court has already named the gap
…as large firms pour thousands of dollars into enterprise-grade AI and make their use of AI more secure, efficient, effective, and powerful, how will a pro se litigant or a litigant who cannot afford big-ticket legal services and better AI keep up?
…this provision will (at least for now) bar the parties from using most, if not all, mainstream low-to-no-cost AI to process Confidential Information. This type of restriction disadvantages pro se litigants.
This is Briefcase.
Briefcase exists to close that gap. Corporations buy these protections from enterprise vendors. Briefcase runs on the same terms, priced like the AI tools you already use.
So the other side’s files can come in. Every confidential document a corporation produces to you has a private place to be read, searched, and understood, on the terms the court set, with the written proof of those terms in your hands.
The terms
A federal court set the bar for AI in a lawsuit. Briefcase clears it for everyone.

How it works
Your legal life should not start over with every legal matter.
One record carries a matter through every stage: understand, choose, prepare, act, continue. Nothing restarts when the situation changes, so the context, the decisions, and the work stay where they were.

Understand
Clarity from the first question.
- 02

Professional judgment
Professional judgment is available at every stage. Bringing it in is always your call.
Briefcase requires flat-fee pricing for every limited-scope engagement. The professional sets the price and pays Briefcase a flat technology fee, never a share of it. For every engagement, Briefcase requires full price transparency, so you always know what the service will cost before you decide.

Who it’s for
A serious tool, on the side of the person holding it.
One legal foundation, shaped to the people who live with the consequences: individuals, families, founders, businesses, the professionals who serve them, and the partners who serve the people lawyers turn away.
Individuals
Know what governs your life before it becomes a legal problem.
Standing legal capability across work, housing, contracts, insurance, finances, rights, and life transitions, so you stay ready.
Briefcase for individualsFamilies
Put the plans, authority, and information your family needs in place before the moment arrives.
A family navigates caregiving, children, property, health, emergencies, transitions, incapacity, and death without reconstructing its legal life at the worst possible moment.
Briefcase for familiesStartups & Founders
Build the company on a legal foundation you understand and control.
Ownership, control, IP, people, fundraising, governance, contracts, diligence, and exit remain legible and ready, and professional judgment arrives for the scope the founder chooses.
Briefcase for startups & foundersBusiness & Teams
Turn the documents your business runs on into an intelligent operating record.
Contracts, policies, obligations, procedures, playbooks, decisions, and what the team knows become one answerable operating record. Each function sees its own part, an authorized leader sees the whole, and the business owns all of it as it grows and reorganizes. Counsel works inside that record on the business's terms, and the business stays free to choose who that is, engagement by engagement.
Briefcase for business & teamsAttorneys & Legal Professionals
Start with prepared clients. Find matters that fit your practice. Handle more work profitably.
Less time reconstructing context, more time applying judgment. Prepared clients, matters that fit, and one place for conflicts, scope, delivery, and payment.
Briefcase for attorneys & legal professionalsAccess to justice and courts
Serve the people you have to turn away. Briefcase gives them a legal foundation of their own.
Capacity for partners. Preparation for courts. Legal aid, nonprofits, and advocates serve more of the people who come to them, and the people they have to turn away keep a private, grounded path. Courts see better-prepared filings from self-represented litigants and a clearer process, without endorsing or buying a private product. Access to justice widens where the system has the least to give.

The record
Nearly everyone meets the law. Millions are meeting it this month.
66%
of U.S. adults hit a legal problem over four years; only about 14% turned to a court.

Hagan, 2022The Supply and Demand of Legal Help on the InternetPeople already in market for help.
For those who cannot afford a lawyer, AI can help. It drives new, highly accessible tools that provide answers to basic questions, including where to find templates and court forms, how to fill them out, and where to bring them for presentation to the judge—all without leaving home. These tools have the welcome potential to smooth out any mismatch between available resources and urgent needs in our court system.
Prepared before it matters. Ready when it does.
